Emergency Flat Roof Replacement for Car Port in Bredbury

When water starts leaking into places it shouldn’t – especially near electrical systems – an emergency flat roof replacement in Bredbury becomes a top priority. That was the case for a homeowner in Bredbury who contacted Pinnacle Roof & Build, your go-to roofing company in Stockport, after discovering that their ageing carport roof had begun leaking directly onto electrical installations inside the structure.

The roof in question was an older felt flat roof that had clearly reached the end of its working life. Years of exposure to the elements had left the felt badly deteriorated, with cracks, splits and areas where the material had completely perished. Water was now penetrating through the roof structure and running down into the carport, creating a potentially hazardous situation due to its proximity to electrical wiring and fixtures.

Understandably keen to resolve the problem quickly and minimise any risk, the homeowner asked the team at Pinnacle Roof & Build to assess the condition of the roof and advise on the best course of action. After inspecting the structure, it was clear that repairs would only offer a temporary fix. The condition of the felt and the underlying roof deck meant that a full replacement was the safest and most reliable long-term solution.

The first step involved removing the failing felt roof covering and stripping the structure back to its base so that the condition of the roof deck could be properly assessed. As expected with a roof of this age, sections of the existing decking had also begun to deteriorate and required replacement to ensure the new roofing system would be installed onto a solid and dependable surface.

To address this, the Pinnacle Roof & Build team installed brand new 18mm OSB boards across the roof structure. These boards provide a strong and stable foundation for modern flat roofing systems, ensuring the roof remains structurally sound while supporting the new waterproof membrane.

With the deck fully prepared, the team installed a new EPDM rubber flat roof Stockport system. EPDM has become one of the most reliable materials available for flat roofs due to its durability, flexibility and outstanding resistance to weather conditions. Unlike traditional felt roofing, which can deteriorate relatively quickly over time, EPDM creates a seamless waterproof layer designed to perform effectively for decades with minimal maintenance.

To ensure the roof remained fully protected where it meets the surrounding brickwork, lead flashing was installed along both wall abutments. This detailing is critical in preventing water from working its way behind the membrane, creating a clean and highly effective weatherproof seal between the roof surface and the adjoining walls.

Once the EPDM membrane, trims and flashing were fully installed, the carport roof was transformed into a secure, watertight structure. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing that the immediate leak has been resolved and that the new roofing system provides long-term protection against the elements.

Although the project began as an urgent call to resolve a potentially hazardous situation, the completed installation now delivers a modern, durable flat roof installation that will protect the property for many years to come.
