Flat Roof Replacement for Outbuilding in Marple

Not every roofing project needs to be large to require careful planning and expertise. A recent flat roof replacement in Marple by Pinnacle Roof & Build, your go to Marple roofing company, demonstrates how even smaller projects can benefit from modern solutions.

The property featured a small outbuilding with a traditional tiled flat roof that had deteriorated over time. While tiled flat roofs can perform well for many years, they are often vulnerable to long-term weather exposure, particularly when water drainage becomes less effective or the underlying materials begin to weaken. The homeowner had started to notice signs that the roof was no longer performing as it should and wanted a more reliable, modern roofing system installed before the issue developed into something more serious.

After inspecting the structure, the Pinnacle Roof & Build team recommended replacing the existing tiled roof entirely with a new EPDM rubber flat roof system. EPDM has become a widely trusted solution for flat roofs thanks to its durability, flexibility and strong resistance to the British climate. Unlike older roofing materials, EPDM creates a seamless waterproof surface that significantly reduces the risk of leaks or long-term water damage.

Once work began, the team carefully removed the existing tiled roof covering and prepared the surface for the installation of the new roofing system. As with all flat roof installations, attention to detail at this stage is critical, ensuring the base is clean, level and properly prepared before the membrane is fitted.

One of the more technical aspects of this particular project involved the junction between the new roof and the metal panels on the adjoining structure. Typically, lead flashing is used to create a watertight seal in this area. However, due to the nature of the metal cladding, using lead was not a suitable option in this instance.

To overcome this, the team used a specialist 9-inch pressure-sensitive seam tape to form a secure seal between the EPDM membrane and the metal panels. This method provides a strong, long-lasting bond while maintaining the waterproof integrity of the roof. When installed correctly, seam tape like this creates a highly reliable barrier against water ingress and is an excellent alternative in situations where traditional flashing methods are not appropriate.

The new EPDM membrane was then installed across the roof surface, complete with the relevant trims and fascia to ensure a clean, professional finish. These finishing details not only enhance the appearance of the roof but also play an important role in protecting the edges of the system from weather exposure.

Although relatively small in scale, the completed project has provided the homeowner with a far more dependable roofing solution. The new flat roof Stockport is now fully weatherproof, low-maintenance and designed to perform reliably for many years.

Projects like this highlight how the right materials and technical expertise can turn even a straightforward roof replacement into a long-term improvement for a property.
