What is the Big Deal About Lead Flashings?

Lead flashings are not some nice optional extra – they play one of the most crucial roles for your roof. Flashings are professionally installed to seal joints and areas that receive the most water. Without flashing, your roof would almost certainly become affected by leaks and higher rates of internal water ingress.

Lead Flashings

To many people, lead flashings can seem like a simple solution to install. However, if flashings get installed incorrectly, your home will suffer more than a small share of water ingress and other major problems.

Lead flashings are a very important factor in your house’s structural integrity. Not only do installed flashings protect your home from various leaks that can damage your loft, walls and ceilings – they also protect against moisture-related problems. In most cases, that would be damage to the roof structure and the development of high levels of rot, mould and dampness.

Various types of flashing can be used to waterproof the cavities present between your roof coverings and the brickwork. Any professional Manchester roofing company will tell you of their importance and recommend the best for your home.

For most homes, Pinnacle Roof and Build would recommend lead, step and cover flashings for roof projects.

Cover Flashings

Cover flashings are among the most common types of flashing found on houses around the Northwest. They were used for roofing projects due to their great versatility.

Most cover flashings are installed to both the front and rear of chimneys and parapets on both flat roof installations and pitched roof installation.

Step Flashing

Step flashings are most commonly installed to weather the junction between your roof covering and the brickwork. The top, stepped section of the step flashing is returned to the brickwork chase and stands pointed upon completion.

The depth of the brick chase and the angle of the lead cut and installation are major factors in keeping the entire area as watertight as possible. The ‘step’ in question refers to the pattern created in the lead, instigated by a series of cuts that will allow the lead to install into the courses situated between the bricks that resemble the steps of a staircase.

The main signs for repairs needed to your lead flashing would be the appearance of splits and cracks that will eventually fail against excessive water from the weather. If you require the replacement of your lead flashing, call the team at Pinnacle Roof and Build roofing company before the weather is set to get worse over the winter period.

Working in a high pressure law firm means we often don’t have time to turn our attention to the things that need doing to the building we work in.

Since we occupied our Cheadle offices back in 2017, we have have always had and issue with the flat roof at the back. Any time we have tried to resolve it, we have either been met with unreliable workmen, or extortionate quotes.

Once Brad joined BNI – and after hearing about all the fantastic work he had done for fellow members – we decided to call him in to quote. After attending the offices and providing a very reasonable and detailed quotation, we instructed Pinnacle Roof and Build to replace the flat roof at the office.

Brad and his team always turned up on the days and times stipulated – and if there was ever a change in the schedule, Brad would always let me know in advance.

It wasn’t the easiest of jobs, and Brad and his team were met with a lot of challenges – but despite this, the invoice at the end did not exceed the initial quote, and the works were still completed in time.

All in all, Pinnacle Roof and Build provided a first class service. They went above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to family, friends, and business associates.
